The Next Step

With food, housing, and education made possible through International Samaritan’s efforts, offering garbage dump workers an opportunity to learn marketable skills was the next step. International Samaritan began to equip people for economic independence through the Myra Thompson Sewing School and a Micro-business Loan program.

Micro-business Loans

With grants ranging from $250 - $2,500, ambitious and imaginative men and women working in the Guatemala City garbage dump were taught to set-up and run their own businesses. This is a real step out of poverty. Food stands, small bakeries, selling refurbished appliances - the loans enable people to use their ambition and take charge of their lives.
